Four Ingredient Smoothie

Every once in a while you come across something easy AND tasty – and you just have to share. I mentioned that Ben and I were diving into the land of smoothies as early evening snacks when we found ourselves hungry an hour after dinner. Since then, we’ve turned to our “standard” smoothie recipe as a quick, filling, and most importantly delicious meal replacement on weekends. Usually our Saturday or Sunday lunches are thrown together and because we never want to spend a lot of time making anything, it often ends up being a meal of pizza, mac & cheese, or some other high carb, high fat, nutritional bomb.

Enter in the 5 minute very berry smoothie!!

Our standard smoothie consists of 4 simple ingredients: yogurt, berries, protein powder, and milk

  • 1 cup unsweetened yogurt
  • 1 scoop protein powder (we LOVE Jay Robb strawberry powder in this, you can’t taste the powder in this, I promise)
  • 1 cup organic mixed berries
  • splash of milk

I don’t have a fancy $600 Vitamix – I use my handy-dandy $40 Ninja and it works perfectly. Just dump your ingredients in (and most of the time I eyeball the actual measurements), give it a quick whirl, and you have something as close to an ice cream shake as you can get.

Delicious!!! The first time we made this I didn’t add the protein powder and because my yogurt was unsweetened, I wanted a little more and added a tablespoon of raw honey. The second time we swapped the honey for protein powder and have never looked back. The sweetness level of the strawberry powder is perfect, there’s no weird grit or powder taste, and Ben couldn’t even tell there was protein powder in it. Best yet, this shake has a rich taste that feels like you’re eating a snack but has satiety to keep you full and energized all afternoon.

I was intimidated trying to make a smoothie because you generally see recipes filled with spinach and other things I’m just not ready to branch into. If you are – go for it!! Ben wondered how this would taste with frozen bananas and chocolate protein powder. Really the possibilities are endless.

So next time you’re looking for a quick meal, give a smoothie a try before reaching for the packaged foods. You’ll love it!
