It’s always tough coming back after a long weekend away from work, but here we are again. Usually our Independence Day celebrations consist of a cookout, fireworks, and plenty of time with the family. Ben’s folks were out of town, my family was opting for low-key celebrating and in the end, Ben and I decided to just spend the day together at home. We had just finished watching Saving Private Ryan and went to the movie store to rent Schindler’s List. (Can’t remember the last time I walked into a movie rental store). I’d never seen either before and both definitely made me feel appreciative of my freedoms!
Oddly enough, our boot camp place was offering morning classes on the 4th, so we decided to hit the 10am class since we didn’t have anything more productive to do. It ended up being a grueling 40 minute workout. The class right before us left sore and grimacing.
4 stations (4min on, 1min transition, repeat x2)
- 15 wall balls
- 10 ball slams
- 5 burpees
- 15 kettle bell squat and overhead press
- 10 kettle bell swings
- 10 goblin squats (squats as low as you can go!)
- 15 sit ups
- 10 mountain climbers
- 5 squat thrusts
Station 4 (outside):
- 5 tire flips
- 10 pushups
- 15 squats
It was quite the lower body workout with all the squats. We were feeling it! Most of the day we spent lounging around, then we watched half of Schindler’s, went for walk since it was GORGEOUS outside, and finished up the movie just in time to grab a blanket, light the citronella candle, and park outside on our back porch to watch the neighborhood fireworks.
It got surprisingly cold but with a drink in hand and a blanket – I was perfect. There are quite a lot of houses where we live and lots of fireworks going off all around us. It makes for a nice, relaxing time watching in the comfort of our house rather than trekking down into the mass chaos of downtown Green Bay for their fireworks display.
Saturday morning they switched up the boot camp class to be a full hour of foam rolling! We went through the normal warm-up routine and then were walked through various foam roller and exercise band stretches. Very painful but I definitely needed it.
We got home and found we’d caught rabbit #3 for the year. We dropped this little guy off several miles away.
Saturday night was spent with friends for a cookout. We arrived around 6pm and left after midnight and the ENTIRE time we were there someone was throwing a tennis ball at one of their dogs. Pork Chop has so much energy and catching balls is her favorite thing. I should have clipped my pedometer to her for the day. 😉
Their other dog, Doughnut, was much more subdued. She was so gentle and well-behaved.
The boys tended the fire and talked of manly things…
While we girls laughed at them and caught up on summer events. We grilled beef hot dogs and I couldn’t resist a s’mores with DARK chocolate. Yum, yum, yum!!!
Yesterday was muggy and humid, so I didn’t get many steps in. However my overall step count last week was better than week 1, so I’ll take it.
