When I was a young girl, I always thought I would go away to college, meet a nice guy, get married, and have 2-4 kids by the time I was 30. Things change from your youthful perspective though and in 2009 when I was 28, living at home, and unemployed, marriage and kids were the furthest things from my mind. In fact, I seriously thought it most likely that I’d probably never meet someone.
By the end of 2009 though, everything changed. I found a new job and moved into my own apartment. I was still stuck with a very limited social circle (most people I had worked with were much older) and the guys I had met in the area were bonafide, grade A losers. On a whim, I joined eHarmony for a short subscription to see how that would go. On Thanksgiving day I got matched with a self-proclaimed computer geek and the rest is history. 🙂
We have seen each other through family deaths, new jobs, promotions, house changes and those all brought us closer.
On March 30th, my 4 year work anniversary and my younger brother Matt’s birthday, we had just finished a fun birthday celebration and I was saying good night and giving everyone hugs when I turned around and Ben was down on one knee. The entire family all knew and had been wondering when he’d propose all day. It was really special for my whole family to be there for it.
We’d planned to tell everyone right away but when I took the ring into the store on Monday to have it sized, they told us it needed to be shipped to Israel to be sized by the manufacturer in order to not invalidate the warranty… so we held off telling everyone for almost three weeks while we waited!
But then I got it back and we got to tell everyone.
I don’t have a single clue as to when, where, or how the wedding will take place. I guess we’ll figure all that out. I have less than zero knowledge about wedding planning so this will be such an adventure. In the meantime, I count myself so lucky to be marrying my best friend. I don’t think there’s another person on earth who could treat me as well as he does.
