A Record Low … Until Now

Ben and I were watching the 10 o’clock news coverage Wednesday night because they had that mini segment about the WI Olympic send-off. Do any of you watch the news? It’s seriously the most depressing thing ever. I think they throw in one feel-good story a night simply because they don’t want people that depressed. Sheesh

I’m usually in bed well before the news comes on anyway but what was interesting was the weatherman talking about how Green Bay is sitting on record lows for snowfall. I think he said, so far, we’d gotten around 1.6″ of snow. That’s super crazy for this area. But, it snowed last night and is expected to keep falling lightly today so I guess our snow drought is over. :) Nasty for driving but makes everything look a bit fresher with the fresh layer of powder.

This week I’ve been starting out breakfast with a protein shake. I keep my morning ones simple because I don’t have time for anything too fancy: 12oz of almond milk and a scoop of chocolate sunwarrior. A few months ago I ordered some food through vitacost and they sent me back a bonus gift – a large container of hemp protein powder. I’d given that to Ben so he could make a protein shake at work when/if he was feeling hungry… and it turned into a daily routine for him too. So when he told me he was out of protein powder mid-week, we raced out to the store to find a quick replacement.

This stuff is actually really great. We’d been looking for the Designer Whey brand but when I compared ingredients – it wasn’t even close. The Jay Robb powder has an impressively short list of ingredients, is sweetened with stevia, and mixes into milk or almond milk well. Plus, it tastes really good. If you’re looking for a good protein powder to try, I would definitely recommend the Jay Robb chocolate. I need to get back to try the strawberry soon!

With class last night it was another quick meal night.

The smart-chicken brand is awesome but their regular chicken breasts are $$. This pack of sausages, however, was under $5. The andouille is spicy so Ben loves it and there’s no nitrates or MSG – hurray!!

I don’t often post breakfast or lunch pics because I tend to eat the same stuff and it gets old. But here’s what I have packed for this morning: greek yogurt, blackberries, califlower, leftover bacon (mmmm), and a smoked string cheese with almonds. I eat the cheese/almonds as a mid-day snack.

Now I’m off to find Facebook and check out the San Francisco Olympic send-off party pictures. They are enroute to Pyeongchang now! I suppose it might also be nice if I offered to help Ben clear the driveway before work. :)

HAPPY FRIDAY! Woot!

  1. Jay Robb protein is an EXCELLENT choice. I’ve been using it for years. When you use the blender it takes on a lot of air so to thicken it up a bit, I add a bit of Vegan freindly Arbonne Chocolate Protein powder, also good quality ingredients but it makes the smoothie/shake a little bit thicker.

  2. Can’t stand the news for just that very reason! I don’t need to add depression in my life.

  3. I’m going to assume the 1.6″ of snow was from just Jan. 1, until now… Since we got that massive dump of snow in December… well over 5″ or whatever.
I also find the news incredibly depressing. There was a time where I would only watch it for the weather… then there was a time I would just avoid it all together. Now, I typically watch either the 5 or 6 o’clock news – but it is still mostly for the weather. I can’t stand the depressing stories.
I use to live in Sheboygan, and we got the Milwaukee news station – Oh my goodness, that was so much worse!! The first 10 minutes were basically dedicated to some shooting or death or something that had happened… and it was an every day occurrence!

  4. The Jay Robb stuff is some of the best tasting stuff out there. I had the strawberry, but only because it was on sale. That stuff is expensive! I actually prefer to get my PP unsweetened so I can add it to savory stuff or other things (I have added it to lattes before).
